Spring 2005 - Feasibility Trial
The BHS research team initiated a ten-month feasibility trial in East Baltimore in Feb, 2005. In 2007, selected food markets in East and West Baltimore will participate in a main trial that will provide and promote more healthful choices.
Two Stop, Shop and Save supermarkets and seven corner stores in East Baltimore are working with the Baltimore Healthy Stores project to provide healthy foods to community residents.
The BHS program also includes a community action center as a venue of intervention. The photo shows a primary investigator, Dr. Gittelsohn, giving a lecture to community residents at the community action center.
Educational display is one of the communication tools to interact with customers. It provides phase-specific nutrition and diet related knowledge to customers.
The BHS research team interviewed 175 subjects to collect baseline data including dietary and anthropometric data of subjects.
