Baltimore Healthy Stores Phases and Selected Materials

General Materials
The shelf labels, incentive cards, and coupons will be used throughout the phases of the Baltimore Healthy Stores program.

Phase 0: Recruitment and Teasers
Phase 0 introduces the Baltimore Healthy Stores program to shoppers and recruits store owners and managers to participate. Participating stores are given training and materials to assist them in bringing the BHS program to their stores.

Phase 1: Healthy Eating for Your Kids
Phase 1 helps parents buy healthier foods for their kids and themselves, starting with breakfast. Lower fat, lower sugar, higher fiber breakfast options are highlighted in this phase.

Phase 2: Cooking at Home
Phase 2 focuses on helping shoppers prepare healthier food in their homes. The materials promote ways to reduce fat and increase fiber in the diet in ways that are easy and inexpensive.

Phase 3: Healthy Snacks
Snacks can be a major source of calories and unhealthy fats. Phase 3 helps people choose healthier snacks.

Phase 4: Carry-out Foods
Americans are buying more prepared foods. Phase 4 teaches tips for healthy eating when cooking is not on the menu.

Phase 5: Low Calorie Drinks
Sugary drinks can be a major source of empty daily calories. Phase 5 helps educate shoppers about quenching thirst without putting on pounds.
